Model A Day

with GMS Hot Rods

It was early March when the sixth annual model a day was held in Oratia in West Auckland. Hosted by Chris Hornblow and Shane Adlington this great day is a casual afternoon to celebrate all things Model A.

Just on 50 Model A cars were in attendance including one Model T powered by Model A. The furtherest travelled was Kev Topham from Masterton with his Model A coupe which he drove all the way up within seven hours.

The casual afternoon is a great way for friends, new and old to catch up and talk about all things, Model A and everything else in between over a cold beverage and a barbecue dinner.

The vehicles that showed up ranged from barn, find original cars to fully restored, show quality cars to full blown hot rods. It is the variety of these cars in the people that make this day so special. Model A Fords were dated from 1928 to 1931 and aside from the Model T Ford they certainly put Ford Motor Company on the map.

The casual aspect this afternoon was also welcoming for families and enthusiasts, both young and old to attend and enjoy each other’s company. The barbecue was made by the club members of the younger Troublebound Hot Rod Club.

Others attended from the Hawke’s Bay region and the Bay of Plenty region as well as from all over Auckland and the Northland. These events are important for a sense of normality after a few years of Covid, and now the torrential weather and flooding and cyclones we have had. Just a great way to relax. So thank you guys for a great afternoon.
