The strength or success of anything in life is measured in numbers and the annual Repco Beach Hop in Whangamata is no exception. After 21 years it has become Australasia's largest event of its type catering for automotive fun and rock and roll music. With last year's Covid delayed event being held in November, it gave the Beach Hop crew only a few months between this year's event and last. Despite that, it went off without a hitch and as usual an incredible amount of fun on wheels. From March 24th to 28th, the Coromandel area of New Zealand came alive to the roar of V8's and rock and roll music. What makes the Beach Hop so favourable is the fact its entirely up to you as to how much you participate or not and there's something for everyone.
Kicking off on Wednesday at Waihi saw the bustling little town bursting at the seams, roll on to a new venue for Thursday as Thames embraced Beach Hop and it was a welcome destination to the event. Friday's Thundercruise to Onemana started off wet but all cleared for the show to go on and lead into Saturday’s grand parade at Whangamata. An event within event sees such aspects like the vintage caravans, retro markets, classic car auctions and the giveaways. This year included a pink Ford Thunderbird too!
Repco Beach Hop is a must do, and the confirmed dates for next year's event are 23-27 March 2022.
