Preview of a delayed Hot Rods & Horsepower Show & Swapmeet
Hosted by Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Napa Auto Parts Dragway
Like most things which haven’t been cancelled totally by Covid restrictions imposed by our government, the Hot Rods & Horsepower Show hosted by Pukekohe Hot Rod Club & Napa Auto Parts Dragway has been delayed. The new date will be the weekend of the 11th-12th December. Fingers crossed and prayers made as this is written that the restrictions will be relaxed enabling the top notch show to go on. Originally scheduled for earlier in the year, the show will definitely be the first major hot rod and drag racing show to feature on the calendar in months.
“Much planning has gone into the event, not to mention the commitment of our many event sponsors. We all need this show to go ahead and it needs to happen to provide enjoyment to all after such a rough year locked up at home”, says Pukekohe Hot Rod Club president Trevor Williams. Traditionally, the event is the best of the best on display and it attracts visitors from all over the country (pre Covid of course). “We all need this to happen to have something to look forward to and enjoy while showcasing the best of the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club and Napa Auto Parts Dragway”.
Many new cars are slated to be displayed to the public for the very first time in New Zealand from Ian Taylor’s USA built B&M/Brizio “Mega Deuce” 1932 Ford Tudor to Michael Franklin’s Nostalgia Nitro Funny car based on the classic 1957 Chev. New this year is the addition of the club’s annual swap meet on Saturday 11th November. Usually at the drag strip but cancelled due to Covid, the annual swap meet will be held at the Hot Rod & Horsepower Show on the Saturday only. Combining the two events will attract more people to enjoy a wider range of great things to do and see making for an action packed day.
“This year’s show is focussed on showcasing to the public the family orientated hobby of hot rodding and the sport of drag racing we enjoy”, says Trevor Williams. “We are a community spirited club and here is our showcase to the community”. Trevor adds, “ALL of the above will depend on the Government’s so-called TRAFFIC light changing on November the 29th. Further information to follow after the announcement but ALL sellers, swappers, and visitors will be required to follow government COVID protocols. This includes wearing of face masks which are only to be removed when drinking and eating at the bar and food facilities onsite. Don’t forget social distancing and scan the COVID app, or sign the visitor register. ALL of the above is MANDATED by your elected leaders NOT the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club. Fingers crossed”.
If you like the sound of this and get along to the Indian Hall over the weekend of 11th-12th December and you like what you see then you may wish to join the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club? Membership requirement is to have an interest in in Hot Rodding or Drag Racing, and club activities and if you do have a car the Pukekohe Hot Rod Club has an open policy in which the vehicles are mainly American origin, drag cars or vehicles of interest.
