The season has ended on a high for a group of dedicated Franklin United footballers who have taken out the Northern Region Football Under 15’s Conference Championship with a 3-3 draw against Ellerslie in front of a packed Drury Hill.
The team is coached by Former Solomon Islands International Captain Henry Fa’arodo and Franklin United Premier Team member Chris Brett and the squad of 18 has worked exceptionally hard this season and come out with an impressive 55 goals for, 20 against, and Played 16, Won 12, Drawn 2 and lost 2 result. A closely fought competition saw the team need a win or a draw in their final game to come out as Champions.
Training three times a week, the team are part of the Franklin United Youth Talent Centre, a branch of Franklin United that was established in 2016 to provide a sustainable pathway to the top level for all football players and coaches in the Franklin Community.
With the Franklin area stretching from Drury to Mercer (north to south), and Waiuku to Bombay (west to east) it is estimated that are two to three thousand people are involved with football in the area, with many more expected to become involved in part due to the fast-growing area. The formation of Franklin United offers those wanting to become the best they can be, the chance to do that, with top level coaching and opportunities and without having to travel to the inner-city clubs.
Since its inception, Franklin United has gone from strength to strength with many teams enjoying success at the top level. The 1st Team head coach and Head of Football Mark Holt sums it up.

And whilst weekly play is over for many of the teams, the Club is delighted to be sending a full Men’s and Women’s squad including three Players, Nathan Sumner, Sean Carrapiett and Emerson Foote from the winning Conference squad to the prestigious Under 19 Lotto National Youth Championship held in Napier this month over Labour weekend.
